Amber Fort, Jaipur

Begun in 1592 under Raja Man Singh I as the Kachwaha capital before Jaipur existed — red sandstone and marble courtyards climbing a ridge, crowned by the Sheesh Mahal's thousands of mirror mosaics.

Hawa Mahal, Jaipur

The 1799 'Palace of Winds' — a five-storey pink facade pierced by 953 jharokha windows, built so royal women could watch street processions unseen.

Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Founded around 1459 by Rao Jodha, its ramparts rise roughly 120 m straight from the rock — the view down over Jodhpur's indigo-washed houses is why it's called the Blue City.

City Palace, Udaipur

Rajasthan's largest palace complex, begun in 1553 under Udai Singh II — a terraced run of courtyards and balconies above Lake Pichola, with the Lake Palace appearing to float mid-lake below.

Jaisalmer Fort

Raised in 1156 in golden-yellow sandstone, this is one of the world's few living forts — a sizeable share of the old city's residents still live and trade inside its walls.

Jaipur's walled old city

A planned grid city of 1727, UNESCO World Heritage listed in 2019 — its bazaars still sort by trade: block-print textiles, blue pottery, silver and gemstones street by street.
